Village

With a population of some 900, Cavendish is a lively community with a church, a school, a shop, three pubs and much more.

St Mary the Virgin's Church is at the top north east of the village green and welcomes residents and visitors alike. There is a pre-school based at the Memorial Hall and a primary school at the top of the village green.   The village community shop the Duck or Grouse, is run by volunteers for the benefit of  the whole community, resident and visiting. Many villages the size of Cavendish have lost their only pub, we are lucky enough to have three pubs.   We even have a cafe at the southern end of the village green.

Cavendish has many clubs and activities running throughout the year. These include cricket, football, bowls, brownies, local history, horticulture, and much more. Read about them on the Clubs and SocietiesSports Clubs and Youth Groups pages

We have a very active Community Association that organises events throughout the year, particularly the hugely successful summer fete and bonfire night.

The sense of community runs through the very fabric of the village with its many events and facilities run by volunteers for the benefit of the whole community.  The community assets page describes some of these, including the Duck or Grouse village shop, Memorial Hall, many outdoor spaces and most recently, the telephone box.  We mustn't forget the cemetery, the orchard and allotments, all village assets but not related!
