Cavendish Wanderers Cricket Club

The cricket club dates back to the Victorian era and, like most village teams at the time, it was characterised by the lord of the manor playing alongside local tradespeople. Many clubhouses still bear the hallmarks of their Victorian heritage given they were in essence wooden sheds with little creature comfort. Cavendish’s original clubhouse was a thatched affair.

Cavendish Bowls Club

Cavendish Bowls Club, situated behind the Bull Inn, is hoping to attract more members from the Village and surrounding area. This ancient and sociable game can be played by all ages from14yrs upwards, and also provides gentle exercise for the more elderly.

The Bowling Season this year starts in April until the end of September. The club has two teams in three leagues, we play friendly matches with other clubs and hold internal competitions. Throughout the season we hold ‘Rollup Evenings’ when any new members can come to practice and receive tuition and guidance.

If you are interested, please come along any Wednesday Evening from April, 6pm – 8pm, bowls can be provided whilst you are learning, just bring flat shoes.

Cavendish Football Club

We have had great success in the past and have previously won both the Suffolk Primary Cup and more recently in 2011, at Portman Road Ipswich, won the prestigious Suffolk Junior Cup. We are on course for another successful year.

At present the club runs two adult teams both competing in The Colchester and East Essex league. The First team finished the 2016-17 season as champions of the premier division. The reserves compete in division one. We have over 30 regular playing members but are always looking for new talent. During pre season in July training is held at the ground on the lower pitch. The team managers are Dave King (1st team ) and Patrick Tatum (reserves)

Any prospective new players are more than welcome to contact me Paul Hurst for information regarding training or just come along to the ground. Our facilities and pitch at the Memorial Hall ground are second to none in this area.
